FAQ

Where do the scrip certificates come from?

Great Lakes Scrip Center purchases the certificates directly from the retailers. The certificates we provide to our coordinators are the same gift certificates you would buy if you went to the participating retailer and purchased them yourself

Can I use the scrip certificates anywhere?

Yes, the certificates are accepted at all participating retailer locations.

Does it cost a family anything to participate? Do they have to sell anything?

There are no membership fees or application fees. You simply pay your organization face value for the certificates they order. The beauty of the scrip concept lies in the fact that you raise money for your organization by using your existing household shopping budget. Some families may enlist relatives, friends and neighbors to buy scrip. But unlike other fundraising programs, scrip families do not have to “sell” anything to raise money for their organization.

Why do I have to wait so long to receive my order?

The time from placing an order to receiving the cards varies but is never longer than two weeks. Because of the high cost of shipping (because of the insurance) activated gift cards, we must hold all orders in queue until we have enough to make an order worthwhile (generally $1000 in orders). We place an order at least every two weeks and often more frequently as warranted by orders. Once a batch order is placed, we receive the card within a few days and contact you to arrange delivery.

I want to place a large (more than $1000) order. Can I get it sooner?

If you want to make a large order (your monthly grocery and gas budget, remodel project, school shopping, etc) just let us know. We will be more than happy to make a special order to ensure you get the cards when needed.

Can I use scrip to pay department store charge account balances?

A few retailers allow you to pay charge account balances with scrip, but generally speaking, most do not. GLSC coordinators can search our online participating retailers list for specific information on which retailers do and do not accept scrip for charge account balances.
