Next week is Teacher and Staff Appreciation week. In honor of that, the PTCO would like to thank the employees of Kent City Schools with a brunch. This will take place on Monday, 5/2/16 at the elementary school and Tuesday, 5/3/16 at the middle and high schools. Please consider donating something to show your appreciation for all of their hard work. These items need to be at the school by 9:15 am the day of the brunch. Thank you! Please use the link below to sign up.
Junior Achievement will be starting soon at KCE, grades K-3 will be participating this year. JA provides all the materials for each classroom. 1 (or 2) volunteers are needed to lead the instruction. There are 9 classrooms that need to be covered, so 6 more volunteers are needed. There are 5 classroom visits that are approx. 30 minutes long over a 5 week period. Preparation time is approx. half hour for each class. This is a very rewarding volunteer opportunity and a great way to give back to the school.
Potential volunteers can be prior students of KCE, business partners in the community or parents of children in higher grades. Class instruction will start next week. However, some classes could start a week later, if needed, to secure volunteers.
Feel free to contact Sara Schutt in the Elementary office for more information.
Looking for a great reason to not cook over Spring Break? Kent City’s own Papa Piccione’s is hosting a fundraiser for the PTCO all day Thursday, April 7th. A portion of all sales (dine-in or take-out) will be donated back to the PTCO. Because of our fundraising efforts, the PTCO is able to provide much needed financial and other general support, including:
- Senior Scholarships
- Funding Field Trips
- Donations to all School Libraries
- Odyssey of the Mind Team Sponsorship
- Teacher Requests for the Classrooms
- Prizes in the Classrooms
The Carnival Committee is seeking help to work in the kiddie prize room during the annual community carnival on March 19th. The carnival runs from 5:30-9, but volunteers may take shorter shifts. Please contact Jessica McKinley with questions or to volunteer at email@example.com.
Together, we can make a world of difference! Please consider sharing your time and talents with the Kent City PTCO. We are actively looking for anyone that is interested in serving as a PTCO board member after the current term is complete in June. There are several current board members that do not plan to serve for another term; therefore there will be several vacancies. These vacancies NEED to be filled in order for the PTCO to continue serving our school and community effectively. Board member terms are for only 2 years. Nominations will be accepted in April, with elections to be held in May. If you are interested or simply have a question, please contact Mary Wilson at firstname.lastname@example.org. “At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents” -Jane D. Hull
The last scrip order before Christmas will be placed on Tuesday, 12/15/15 (please note date change). Get your order in to get those last Christmas gifts! The order should be available on Friday, 12/18/15.
Spartan Stores are discontinuing their Cash for Labels program at the end of the year. If you have been saving Spartan UPC’s, please turn them in to your child’s teacher by December 18th so we can redeem them one last time. Thank you!
Have you ever wondered how you can help out the PTCO, but just can’t find the time to volunteer? Here is a great opportunity for YOU! The PTCO is selling ice cream sundaes at all home, Varsity basketball games. The funds raised by these sales will be put toward scholarships for two Kent City seniors in the spring. If you would like to donate a large pail of ice cream for these sales, please contact Mary Wilson at email@example.com. The more ice cream we can get donated, the more funds can go toward our Kent City students!
Due to the fact that the December 2015 PTCO meeting would have fallen on a day over Christmas vacation, it was decided that the meeting would be cancelled. The next PTCO meeting will be on Monday, 1/25/16, at 6:30 pm in the Administration Building. Hope to see you there!
